Kanayo O Kanayo Sends Message To Actors Making YouTube Skits

Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O Kanayo has shared his voice with new and blooming Nollywood actors who have delved into skit-making.

He shared his voice via a post shared on his official Instagram.

He warns against ‘one-day shooting,’ its health impact, its cost, and its relevance. He fears the art of YouTube skit-making will become unsustainable as actors will overwork themselves.

He said;

‘’This past midnight I sat back and watched the opportunities offered by the YouTube channel a very good platform but unfortunately like anything that comes to Nigeria, people jump in and try to mess it up. I watched with dismay and I made this video out of no malice for anybody. It’s been messed up by different things, especially the actors that are doing it.

The whole irony of one day shoot is not sustainable. Some of them now make it so difficult for producers and tell you one day shoot is 1 million to 1.5 million one day shoot.nfortunately my very high-standing colleague who started this one-day shoot go and ask him, unfortunately, he’s not in good health.

We built Nollywood, brick by brick, block by block but the guys who have besieged YouTube, the actors not the producers, do not have any sense of purpose or process to create a procedure for a lasting videography or creating content. Take for instance, the whole irony of one-day shoot. It is not sustainable. Some of them now make it so difficult for producers. They tell you one day shoot is N1 million or N1.5 million. It isn’t sustainable. Unfortunately, my very high standing colleague who started this one-day shoot is unfortunately not in good health. Why? I know for everyone who gives you a job, they want it done. They pack you with enough to finish in one day. Thirty scenes, thirty-five scenes..Most of you think you are enjoying ‘I am fully booked for the next six months’ but your health…I hope you enjoy good health like those of us who started 38 years ago because what you are doing is not sustainable.

I bear you no malice. Earn all your money but the disservice you are doing to professionalism is not going to last long and the way I see it. YouTube is not going to last long in Nigeria as a platform.”

EFCC Crackdown: Unveiling the Inside Story of Nigeria’s Battle Against Corruption

As we all know, Nigeria’s battle against corruption has been a long and yet unyielding journey since the very beginning. Different vices and methods has been employed by different government administrations to win the war against corruption and one of these ways includes the creation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)

Established in 2003, the EFCC was created in response to the rampant corruption that plagued Nigeria’s political and economic landscape. The agency is tasked with investigating and prosecuting financial crimes offenders, the agency has gained prominence in the past years.

EFCC operates under the leadership of a chairman appointed by the President of Nigeria, with support from dedicated staff and investigators. Additionally, collaboration with other government agencies, such as the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), is crucial in ensuring effective enforcement of anti-corruption laws.

Challenges Faced by the EFCC

Despite its mandate, the EFCC faces numerous challenges in its fight against corruption.

CORRUPTION

Corruption in Nigeria is a big factor that has eaten into majority of the population. From the upper chamber of the country to the grassroots is rooted in corrupt practices. Even among the EFCC agency its self corruption exist.

On July 6, 2020, Magu, the acting chairman of the agency appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari was arrested by officers of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and taken to the Presidential Villa where he was questioned on alleged corruption against him. He was detained and on July 7th was suspended from his position as chairman of the agency.

APPOINTMENT OF THE CHAIRMAN OF THE AGENCY

Another major reason I believe serve as a hindrance to the EFCC is the fact that the Chairman of the agency has to be appointed by the President of the Nation. Take for example, a corrupt President gains power into office, such a person when appointing the chairman for the agency will look for someone who will follow in his footsteps.

EFCC chairman Waziri was dismissed by former President Goodluck Jonathan on 23rd November 2011 and replaced him with Ibrahim Lamorde as Acting Chairman, who was confirmed on the 15th February 2012 by the Nigerian Senate.

When Goodluck Jonathan left office, Lamorde was sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari on November 9th, 2015, and replaced with Ibrahim Magu. But then, the Nigerian Senate refused to confirm Magu as chairman of the agency due to security reports by law enforcement agencies against him. It is a good thing that the Nigeria Senate is vetoed with the power to clear individuals appointed by the President, thereby reducing the chances of corrupt Presidents appointing corrupt chairman.

Other challenges includes; lengthy court proceedings and inadequate legislation, often hamper the agency’s ability to secure convictions. Furthermore, political interference and lack of sufficient resources pose significant obstacles to the EFCC’s operations.

Success and Profile Cases by the EFCC

Over the years, the EFCC has investigated and prosecuted a multitude of high-profile corruption cases involving politicians, public officials, and business leaders.

The most recent of these cases is the arrest of Social Media personality Idris aka Bobrisky over Naira mutilation and abuse and was sentenced to 6 months in prison by the law court, Cubana Chief Priest over mutilation also and was later bailed on a 10 million naira charges. The agency has recently declared the Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello as wanted for money laundering of over 80.2 Billion Naira.

All these shows the extent to which the agency in fighting corruption and other financial related crimes under the New President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

While the EFCC has achieved notable successes in recovering stolen assets and securing convictions, it has also faced criticism for its perceived inefficiencies and selective prosecution.

Canal+ increases stake in media giant MultiChoice to 40.8%

The French media group Canal+ has increased its stake in South African media giant MultiChoice to 40.83%. Their actions reveal a strong intent to gain control of Africa’s largest pay-TV company.

The company said in a statement on Thursday that the on- and off-market acquisitions had been disclosed to SA’s takeover regulation panel.

In February, Canal+’s stake in MultiChoice passed the 35% mark, which triggered a law that allowed it to present a mandatory offer to shareholders of MultiChoice.

Canal+ bought MultiChoice 3.5 million shares for an average of R116 per share. The newly bought shares are lower than the mandatory share offer of R125.

“The 3 million shares acquired would have cost R30 million more had they been purchased at the offer price, so Canal+ is saving a lot of money,” said Jimmy Moyaha, founder of investment firm Lebowa Capital.

It has increased its stake from 36.6% as of April 8, buying shares from April 12 to April 17 at 117.50 Rand, 115.99 Rand, 115.95 Rand, and 116 Rand per share. The offer at 125 rand per share is with the board of MultiChoice awaiting approval.

Meta Price Slash: Quest 2 128GB Model is Now $199!

The previous generation of the Meta VR headset, Meta Quest 2, is getting a large price drop.

The VR headset is dropping from $299 to $199. The model that will be affected is the Meta Quest 2 128 GB, which will now be the most affordable VR headset for anyone who wants a virtual experience.

Quest 2 was first released in 2020 for $299. During the inflation of 2022, there was a price jump to $399. The $199 price decrease is the lowest it has ever been since it debuted in June 2021.

“From home fitness to fully immersive gaming to 2D entertainment, Meta Quest 2 is the most affordable way to tap into everything VR has to offer, and we’re doubling down by making our recent price drop permanent,” says Meta.

The price drop shouldn’t be a surprise considering the release of Quest 3 in October. The latest generation is sold for $499, making Meta Quest 2 the most affordable VR headset.

Meta also announced that the price of Quest 2 accessories will drop. The Elite Strap is now $24.00, the Elite Strap with Battery is now sold at $45, and the Carrying Case is now $20. The company’s Active Pack is now reduced to $30, and its Fit Pack is seeing its price drop to $20.

The original Quest headset, which was released back in 2019, currently has no support, new updates, or new apps. Consumers rightfully fear this may be the beginning of the end of Quest 2.

With the release of Meta AI, Llama 3, and Ray-Ban glasses, fans of Meta hardware products are expecting the new age of virtual reality and artificial reality in all upcoming Meta products.

While the Quest 3 has more to offer, such as mixed reality support and a bump in specs, the Quest 3 is the best for its price.

TIPS: Best ways to Study a Course or Subject you find Difficult

Let’s face it, most of us don’t like reading school books and that is because of the obligation attached to it. And some subjects are just plain difficult. For Example, Mathematics. I’m sure you guessed it too. But the thing is you have to pass the subject and not liking it is a problem for you.

So, I am going to be explaining the best way to study a course or subject even if you don’t like it or find it difficult.

CHANGE YOUR MINDSET

You know that you are the boss of your mind? Well if you don’t know, I am telling you now. Whatever you want your mind to believe, trust me, that’s what it’s going to believe. So all you have to do is tell your mind that if you don’t read, you won’t pass. It’s that simple. Let me be honest, at first, you’d feel like it’s not working but if you continue saying it, one day you’d believe it. You won’t realize when, but you’d just see yourself believing it.

Cultivate the habit of reminding yourself and your mind(most especially) that if you don’t read, you won’t pass. And trust me you’d be getting better. You can also bring up other things to tell your mindset to help you read. And if for any reason you have a mindset that gives you the motivation not to read, try reversing it.

Example of the mindset that motivates one not to read: school na scam School isn’t a scam. A simple question you’d be asked, you’d start stuttering, cause you don’t know it. So see education as a means of being respected and seen as smart in the future. So you can say things like Education will make me smart Education will take me places. Education will help me improve my skills. And if you continue saying it, you’d one day believe it. And once you believe it, it is possible.

CREATE YOUR INTEREST

Teachers or any other person would be like “for you to study well you have to put interest in the subject” Which interest? Like where is the interest coming from? I don’t like this subject and you are telling me to have an interest in the subject. If I had an interest in the first place I wouldn’t hate it! That aside, the truth is if you don’t have a reason to Like a subject, you won’t like it. And in this case, you must pass the subject or the course. So you must like it. Someone might ask, How do I create interest? Look for how that subject connects to your future ambitions. Example: Mathematics; you might think you don’t need maths for anything, how will maths help me as a Dancer? Or an Actor? Not directly, but indirectly though. According to psychology, Maths helps in sharpening your brain. You need a sharp brain to memorize scripts, you need a sharp brain to memorize dance moves. You don’t have to settle for less, Let maths help you become better than average. If you have not figured out what you want to be in life, that’s okay as long as you’re not over 20. You can create reasons to love maths. Probably to make you smarter. You could create other interests, passing a subject or a course depends mostly on you.

LISTEN MORE ATTENTIVELY IN CLASS

This is an unpopular truth, but if you want to pass any subject or course you must attend classes and not just attend classes but also pay attention. Some of the things the teacher or lecturer would say, are going to come out in your exams. Especially if he says something like “Listen carefully” or “It’s not on your note” This is something you’ve heard before, but it’s the truth. Another reason why you should pay attention in class is when you listen to a teacher, not just listening, understanding, and asking questions in class. You won’t forget. It is probably not something that works big time for everyone but it works. Then when you go home and read, my dear, forgetting it isn’t an issue. During exams, you’d remember most of the things the Lecturer said. Especially if you were actively participating in class. So don’t be shy, ask questions, and make contributions, and you’d surely pass.

REVISE THE COURSE OR SUBJECT

It’s just a catchy way to say study. Even if you don’t want to. I don’t know how best to spell it out, but once you forget a subject it will forget you, once it forgets you, you will fall. Times that are best to study.

  1. After the teacher has taught: when you get back home and have rested.
  2. probably a week or two weeks later.
  3. any other time you want.
  4. before the exams.

Don’t make excuses by saying the subjects are much, make a timetable, and be disciplined enough to see it through. No one can teach you how to be disciplined, it’s a personal decision.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO STUDY FOR HOURS

I know our teachers have probably bragged about studying for five hours, six hours, etc and they expect you to do the same. But the truth is, even if you study from now until eternity, if you don’t understand what you are reading, you are just stressing yourself unnecessarily.
I am not saying it’s not okay to do so, but that’s not for everyone. As long as you are true to yourself, and you understand what you studied, you can stop or take a break.
Look for better methods to help you.
Ask a friend that you know, understand the subject better than yourself.
Watch videos on that particular topic (I do this very well)
Read articles on it.
Pretend you’re teaching someone the subject, so you’d read like you’re going to teach.

In conclusion, school isn’t a scam. No subject is greater than you. If you want to pass a subject you will. It is up to you to make that decision.

Start Your Day Right: The Surprising Benefits of Drinking Water When You Wake Up In The Morning

Every individual cares a lot about their health and general wellbeing, that’s why we always do our best to provide you with simple healthy tips that matters. Starting your day right sets the tone for a productive and energized day ahead.

One simple yet often overlooked practice that can significantly contribute to this is drinking water upon waking. In this article, we will be looking into the surprising benefits of this morning ritual and why it’s worth incorporating into your daily routine.

Do you perform this ritual every morning? If Yes, Congratulations! If No then continue reading.

When we wake up in the morning, it is natural for our body to be dehydrated. Throughout the night, we lose water through breathing and perspiration, leaving us in need of replenishment upon waking. Drinking water first thing in the morning helps rehydrate the body, kick starting various essential functions.

Improved Cognitive Function

Hydration plays a crucial role in brain function. Studies have shown that even mild dehydration can impair cognitive performance, affecting mood, memory, and concentration. By drinking water upon waking, you give your brain the hydration it needs to function optimally, leading to increased alertness and mental clarity throughout the day.

Enhanced Physical Performance

Proper hydration is essential for physical performance as well. When you wake up, your body’s hydration levels are typically low, which can lead to feelings of fatigue and sluggishness. Drinking water in the morning helps replenish fluids lost during sleep, lubricating joints and muscles and boosting energy levels to kick start your day with vigor.

Weight Loss Aid

If you’re looking to shed some extra pounds, drinking water upon waking can be a simple yet effective strategy. Research suggests that drinking water before meals can help reduce calorie intake by promoting a feeling of fullness. Additionally, staying hydrated supports proper metabolism function, aiding in the body’s ability to burn calories efficiently.

Promoting Healthy Skin

Dehydration can take a toll on your skin, leading to dryness, dullness, and premature aging. By drinking water first thing in the morning, you hydrate your skin cells from within, promoting a healthy and radiant complexion. Proper hydration also helps flush out toxins, giving your skin a clearer and more youthful appearance.

Supporting Digestive Health

Drinking water upon waking stimulates the digestive system, helping to jumpstart the metabolism and promote regular bowel movements. This can prevent constipation and promote overall digestive health, ensuring that you start your day feeling light and refreshed.

Preventing Headaches

One common symptom of dehydration is headaches, particularly in the morning. By hydrating your body immediately upon waking, you can alleviate morning headaches and prevent them from occurring throughout the day. Proper hydration ensures that your brain has an adequate supply of fluids, reducing the likelihood of headache triggers.

Boosting Immune System

Staying hydrated is very important for a healthy immune system. Water helps flush out toxins from the body, supports the proper functioning of the lymphatic system, and ensures that your cells are adequately nourished. By drinking water upon waking, you give your immune system the support it needs to ward off illness and stay strong.

How much Water do I need to Drink?

While the general recommendation is to drink eight glasses of water per day, individual hydration needs can vary based on factors such as age, weight, activity level, and climate. As a starting point, aim to drink at least 8-16 ounces of water upon waking, adjusting as needed based on your body.

I find it hard to keep up with?

Making drinking water upon waking a habit can be easier said than done, but with some simple strategies, it can become second nature. Set a reminder on your phone or use a hydration tracking app to prompt you each morning. Incorporate it into your morning routine, perhaps by placing a glass of water on your bedside table the night before.

While staying hydrated is essential, it’s also possible to overhydrate, which can lead to electrolyte imbalances and other health issues. Individuals with certain medical conditions, such as kidney problems, may need to monitor their fluid intake more closely. If you have concerns about your hydration levels, consult with a healthcare professional.
