You have worked on both movies and TV, which is more challenging. Tell us which film and TV project you enjoyed writing most.
Lois Truly: I think movies are more challenging for me because you mostly work alone. When you work in TV, there are usually other writers in a writers’ room to bounce ideas off of, and even though I’d rather be alone, having other people to brainstorm with will always make my work easier. The film project I enjoyed writing most was a Showmax movie, Just Before Dark. It was about a woman going blind who wanted to see the child she gave up again, before losing her sight totally.
And for TV, that would be Listen, a fantasy drama. It had two things I love most in movies: young adults/teenagers and superpowers.
Have you ever considered adaptations and biopics? If yes, what adaptation or biopic would you be interested in?
Lois Truly: I have! I actually love seeing the same story told in different formats, so I love adaptations. I only love biopics after the person is dead. Adaptations allow me appreciate the range of human creativity. I would very much love to adapt Chukwuemeka Ike’s The Bottled Leopard. My Mom and I read and talked about it all the time when I was a kid, and it has teenagers and supernatural elements. My two faves.
Lastly, can you tease an upcoming project?
Lois Truly: I can’t speak on clients’ projects, because…NDA, but I’m working on a couple of very exciting spec scripts. The most exciting one is a japa love story gone horribly wrong. I can’t wait to share, because I don’t write romance often.
