Imagine an Instagram Experience But With Unskippable Ads

Meta’s Instagram is testing a new app experience that you may or may not like, brace yourself.

You know how on YouTube you have to watch the first 5 seconds of an ad or the full ad before watching the video you clicked on (premium users can’t relate), well Instagram is doing the same thing.

Instagram is calling this feature “ad-break,” and they are currently testing on a small number of audiences.

This feature might be a controversial one as many users are not onboard with it.

An X user Dan Levy shared his experience of this feature:

The app legit stopped me from scrolling past this ad which is just a bonkers move to me.

“Got the Instagram “ad break” again & this time I clicked the info button to see their explanation”

So abusive to their users to do this”

“Ad breaks are a new way of seeing ads on Instagram. Sometimes you may need to view an ad before you can keep browsing,” reads the description of the new feature.

Users have begun reacting to the news

An X user @BillPrinter00 noted “I’d just close the app and re-start it.

Another @mrpyo1 said: “Social media apps fighting how to make the worst app possible challenge.”

Lastly another user @soursillypickle stated: “Instagram and YouTube are basically ads with some content.”

Traditional DNA Test Can Resolve Paternity Fraud Scandals— Ifa priest, Elebuibon

Nollywood veteran and Ifa priest, Ifayemi Elebuibon, is calling for the adoption of traditional DNA testing to help curb the rise of paternity fraud in Nigeria.

Ifayemi, who recently discussed this with journalists at his home in Osogbo, Osun State, told journalists that the rejection of Yoruba traditional DNA testing played a factor in the rise of the paternity frauds we see today.

According to studies, Nigeria ranked second behind Jamaica in nations with the highest paternity fraud, as one in every four tested men is not the biological father of their child(ren). Many factors may play in this, including infidelity, child swaps in hospitals, and many more.

Many families may be unable to afford the cost of a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test. Elebuibon is suggesting that traditional means could be an alternative for parties interested.

Elebuibon is confident that the Yoruba traditional system for DNA testing is a foolproof method to determine a child’s paternity.

He said, “Yoruba has traditional DNA, and it is very potent. They vary from one family or compound to another. We are having a high rate of cases of paternity fraud now because people of our race have decided to abandon what belongs to them and embrace two foreign religions…In Yoruba culture, even during childbirth, paternity of a baby can be determined. In my own compound those days, a new wife would take oath before the Ogun shrine to remain faithful to only her husband. Traditionally, there are several ways we can determine the paternity of a child. Those means are cheap and safe but our people are not interested in them. They are alternative available for those interested.”

Ayra Starr gives track-by-track breakdown of her new album, ‘The Year I Turned 21’

Here is a track-by-track breakdown of the album, according to Ayra Starr. [From Pulse]

“My brother, who is a music video director, paid a guy to just sing a Fuji song about me, which is at the beginning of ‘Birds Sing of Money’. This was a day after I released my first EP, as a gift. And the guy was just hyping me up. That’s a very Yoruba thing.”

“This is one of my favourite tracks I’ve ever recorded. Ever. Before I sent it to Asake, I wasn’t even sure if he was going to like the song. He was like, ‘OK Ayra, give me some time.’ He sent me his verse in two days. I was like, ‘Oh, this is sounding good.’

‘Commas’ is about how God has blessed me and I’m really grateful for where I am in life and where I’m about to go. I’m grateful for just even being present in this moment and being alive. I feel like that’s what has brought me here, my gratitude and the continuous hard work I will keep putting into this job. God is good.”

“‘Woman Commando’ is such an Afrobeats/amapiano banger in a way, because of the log drums, and I wanted different perspectives. I’ve been watching Coco Jones since I was 12 on Disney’s Let It Shine. I sent her a different song, which she loved, but she was like, ‘Ayra, I want to be on your Afrobeats vibe’, and I was like, ‘Say less.’ Anitta is such an amazing musician and I really just knew that I wanted to go for that Latin element. Her verse is perfect.”

“Is relinquishing control the same as submission? It depends on how the listener and the audience want to take it. The lyric goes: ‘I’m lit tonight/You know my lips lie.’ I want you to take control. I want you to be the man. Do your thing. It’s not really about submission, it’s more like I’m giving you hints—take control.”

‘Lagos Love Story’ is about being in a very happy state of mind. We have that moment where we are so happy, [that] it starts to feel wrong. It starts to feel like, ‘I feel guilty for being this happy’. You kind of feel relieved when something bad happens, because you’re not used to that amount of happiness. That’s what the song is about being in a very high state of happiness.”

“When I released ‘Rhythm & Blues’ [in 2023], I didn’t know if it was the right time. The headspace I was in was a lot of work. I remember recording this song for the first time and how beautiful it was. Also, there is a lyric that goes, ‘My Jigga, my muse’, which I wrote because you don’t expect girl singers to refer to a male love interest as a muse.”

“The first demo of ’21’ was a 21st birthday gift from a friend. Writing it, I was kind of stuck because I didn’t really know how to write about myself. I’m really good at writing about other people and the TV shows I watch and movies I watch, but never myself. So this album was the first time I actually put myself out there and learned how to write by myself.”

GIVĒON’s verse made me cry the first time I heard it; I was so happy. I’ve always wanted to see what we would sound like together because we both have a really low range. GIVĒON came with the most perfect perspective, because anybody that has been in an argument with a man, or any man that’s been arguing with a girl, would know [that] ‘Last Heartbreak Song’ is literally the dynamic.”

“Translating Yoruba to English is so annoying sometimes because it doesn’t just hit the same in English. In the hook, the lyric in Yoruba means ‘Don’t poke me in my eye or don‘t hit me in my eye. I don’t break. I’m good.’ It’s an idiom, right? For the guest feature, I wanted a perspective from somebody who would understand what I was trying to do with the song. I felt like that with Seyi Vibez, we sound amazing together.”

‘Orun’ is a highlife song and a juxtaposition of a puzzle of life. Highlife songs are usually known for being joyful and you want to dance to it. But with ‘Orun’, it’s kind of different because I’m talking about mental health and depression.”

“I’ve been wanting to sample a Don Jazzy production [Wande Coal’s 2009 single ‘You Bad’ (feat. D’banj)] for so long and I’m glad I did. The title ‘Jazzy’s Song’ shows my respect for him and how much I admire him as a person, as an artist, and as a musician.”

“This song is introspective and so vulnerable. I’ve been working for so long, and for the first time in my life, I took a vacation on my birthday. I remember being in the pool with a bottle of 1942 tequila, and I was like, ‘Wow, this moment makes everything all worth it.’ After all the time we’ve put into this job, all the hard work, everything I’ve done, that moment of relaxing in that villa, overlooking the ocean, made everything worth it.”

“Turning 21 is a big [moment] and you start to notice things—like certain behavioural patterns are reflections of certain childhood trauma, or things that you’ve gone through in the past. I noticed that I had not really mourned the death and the loss of my father, and it was something I was holding at the back of my head.”

“I’ve been a big fan of Rvssian for so long, and we’ve been wanting to work [together] for so long. I recorded the verse and was made to sing in Spanish, literally. It’s so crazy that, once it drops, it becomes this global song, and I’m so happy.”

Bill Skarsgård is Returning as Pennywise to ‘It’ Prequel Series, ‘Welcome to Derry’

Bill Skarsgård will be back to play his role as Pennywise in the upcoming ‘It’ prequel series ‘Welcome to Derry’, a Max series.

The actor will take on his role as the horrific clown as he did in the 2017 films It and It: Chapter Two, Skarsgård is also named as an executive producer on the upcoming show. The series will explore Pennywise‘s origin story.

He will reunite with the director of It and It Chapter Two, Andy Muschietti, and Barbara Muschietti, producer, to bring this show to life.

In March last year, Skarsgård announced he was “not involved” with the upcoming prequel, but made a U-turn earlier this year.

Skarsgård will also join cast members Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, and James Remar in Stephen King’s “It” book adaptation. His last Stephen King adaptation was Castle Rock (2018–2019). Warner Bros. Television is expected to take over the production.

Max originally ordered Welcome to Derry to series in February 2023. Of the new series, the Muschiettis said in a statement, “As teenagers, we took turns reading chapters of Stephen King’s It until the thick paperback fell to pieces. It is an epic story that contains multitudes, far beyond what we could explore in our It movies. We can’t wait to share the depths of Steve’s novel, in all its heart, humor, humanity and horror.” [Consequence Film].

Bill Skarsgård will headline the upcoming remake of Nosferatu as the creepy Count Orlok and will star alongside FKA Twigs in the new adaptation of The Crow.

The title “Welcome to Derry” is rumoured to be subject to change, and Andy Muschietti is expected to direct four out of nine episodes of the show. Welcome to Derry was scheduled to be released this Halloween, but HBO and Max chairman/CEO Casey Bloys has suggested 2025 is now more likely.

Scarlett Johansson Expresses Disappointment To OpenAI For Using Voice Similar To Hers

Since the release of OpenAI’s latest artificial intelligence model, Chat GPT-4o, fans of American actress Scarlett Johansson have noticed a foul play on OpenAI’s part. Fans have observed that the voice of Sky in the Chat GPT-4o voice mode feature is similar to the voice of Scarlett Johansson.

OpenAI has announced it will remove the voice of Sky amid controversy over the voice similarity with Scarlett Johansson and also its flirtiness, which is similar to her 2013 film, Her.

According to OpenAI, ChatGPT’s voice was “carefully selected through an extensive process spanning five months involving professional voice actors, talent agencies, casting directors, and industry advisors.”

“When I heard the released demo, I was shocked, angered, and in disbelief that Mr. Altman would pursue a voice that sounded so eerily similar to mine that my closest friends and news outlets could not tell the difference,” Johansson said.

In her statement:

“Last September, I received an offer from Sam Altman, who wanted to hire me to voice the current ChatGPT 4.0 system. He told me that he felt that by my voicing the system, I could bridge the gap between tech companies and creatives and help consumers to feel comfortable with the seismic shift concerning humans and Al. He said he felt that my voice would be comforting to people.

After much consideration and for personal reasons, declined the offer.

Nine months later, my friends, family and the general public all noted how much the newest system named ‘Sky’ sounded like me.

When I heard the released demo, I was shocked, angered and in disbelief that Mr. Altman would pursue a voice that sounded so eerily similar to mine that my closest friends and news outlets could not tell the difference. Mr. Altman even insinuated that the similarity was intentional, tweeting a single word ‘her’ — a reference to the film in which I voiced a chat system, Samantha, who forms an intimate relationship with a human.

Two days before the ChatGPT 4.0 demo was released, Mr. Altman contacted my agent, asking me to reconsider. Before we could connect, the system was out there.

As a result of their actions, I was forced to hire legal counsel, who wrote two letters to Mr. Altman and OpenAl, setting out what they had done and asking them to detail the exact process by which they created the ‘Sky’ voice. Consequently, OpenAl reluctantly agreed to take down the ‘Sky’ voice.

In a time when we are all grappling with deepfakes and the protection of our own likeness, our own work, our own identities, I believe these are questions that deserve absolute clarity. I look forward to resolution in the form of transparency and the passage of appropriate legislation to help ensure that individual rights are protected.”

In November, Scarlett took similar legal action against an artificial intelligence (AI) app, Lisa AI, for using her likeness without her permission in an advertisement.
